Okay, I am so sick and tired of people seeing this photo and freaking out because they think the horse has a ton of tack on. Have you actually LOOKED at the picture? It has a combination hackamore (hackamore and bit combination), a running martingale, and a breastplate. That is all. So, so many other photos of jumper horses are floating around Tumblr with the exact same combination of tack and nobody says jack about “oh so much tack.” The running martingale happens to be a solid piece instead of two separate straps, which gives the illusion of more “stuff”. There’s really not that much on the horse and this is like the 10th time I’ve explained it. /rantover

ok but really guys, I’m sorry. I don’t care who the rider is or any rider in a jumping/hunter ring. if you need the combination of pressure in the mouth with probably a complicated bit (howcoften do you see a French link or smooth anything, simple mouth piece?) and additional nose pressure through the hackamore PLUS a martingale that generally is used to keep the horse’s head down anyway…there is something wrong. you need to retrain your horse if you can’t ride him even on the flat with a simple snaffle bit. I’m sorry but I think all horse sports should have stricker rules on the level of and variation of bit/bridle combinations allowed in a show ring. dressage is a much better example of regulating bits (note, I’m talking about bits/bridles, not ROLLKUR which we know in any sport can happen, regardless of the tack pretty much). and I don’t care if you have “soft hands” or you’re an experienced rider. if you’re so experienced or so kind why don’t you ride in something simple to show off that you can accomplish training your horse effectively and not relying on complicated and often harsh gadgets? /rant over

I always assumed wizards just ignored science, because the fact that “magic” exists, can explain anything. But there are MuggleBorn wizards, ones who, until they were eleven, lived in the real world and learned science and things. Did they all just abandon that normal, muggle knowledge, like Harry did? It’s always been there, itching in the back of my mind.
